The Get List: Toreba: Three Yadon/Slowpoke Plush Wins in (About) One Week!

In which that kind of Pokemon luck will never happen again, so I’m celebrating it to the point of making a commemorative video.

I can’t remember the names of my students or deadlines I write down or the most basic tenets of the language I speak a good chunk of the time, but for some reason I remember exactly what made me love Yadon (Slowpoke) — well, I mean, other than my usual love of flat-affect, slightly dopey-seeming little creatures. I even remember what episode it was, back in the original Pokemon anime.

Yadon doesn’t remember it at all.

Even those of us Pokemon dorks who didn’t have weird, prurient interests in seeing Kojirou/James shirtless (yeah, I know…) loved Battle Aboard the St. Anne and the two episodes that followed. (We were watching on VHS recorded from TV, but also St. Anne was the first dubbed Pokemon episode!) It was just such a fun little story line, with tons of Team Rocket and iconic moments. And at the end was this utterly sublime scene, where Yadon (Slowpoke) just, well, sits. And then evolves! I’ve loved Yadon ever since.

For some reason, I had this run of luck winning Yadon plush on Toreba with only a few dollars (five, maybe?) spent plus free tickets over about nine days. I guarantee I won’t have luck like that again any time soon. But I was excited about it enough I made a little commemorative video.

It’s a riveting little film, I assure you. ^ – ^;

First up, we’ve got this winky-eyed little cutie from the Hopepita series. These often get translated as “winking,” but I’m not sure on the word. I’m too tired to think much about it right now, but not too proud to say I’d love it if anyone reading knows and would tell me…

Please don’t expect much from any of our brains…

Measuring a handsome 9.5 inches high and quite soft, Yadon stands up….kind of well. If you prop him up just a bit (or, in my case, jam him into a semisolid wall of plush), he looks quite nice!

I like the way his little tail curls…awww. ♡

If you like your Yadon not just mostly asleep but rather totally asleep, you might prefer this next plush, thoroughly conked out on his tummy:

You might remember from an earlier entry the Messon (Sobble) plush from the collection I think we called “Huuuge Rolling Round Plushy?” Well, this one’s the Yadon equivalent (I’m not sure if it’s because this is the sleeping version, but this plush is also significantly softer than the Messon one).

This Yadon measures about ten inches long. He’s probably the cuddliest of all of them, just because he’s so soft — and I’m an absolute fool for a sleeping animal of any kind, much less a Pokemon.

(I’m happy to say I have at least one more from this collection headed to me from Toreba — the Kabigon/Snorlax you can see me narrowly miss watching in the video above!)

  • Poketto Monsutaa Dekkai Koro tto Manmaru Nuigurumi (Nemuru) ~Yadon~
  • Pokemon Huge Rolling Round Plushy ~Slowpoke~

I saved the biggest and maybe the best for last, and this Yadon is really kind of formidable — this time he’s not sleeping, but having a snack!

This Yadon is what I like to think of as a “display plush” — if you’re looking for a hugging buddy, he’s a little stiff. And while he’s well made and perfectly soft, he’s the least soft of the three.

But the same things that take away from cuddle potential — like how fully he is stuffed — make him awesome as a great big display.

I really mean the “great big” part, too — he’s almost sixteen inches long!

  • Poketto Monsutaa San & Muun Mogu-mogu taimu Mecha Deka Yadon Nuigurumi
  • Pokemon Sun & Moon Time for Munchies Super Huge Slowpoke Plush

All in all, they’re a perfect little herd of Yadon — I love them!
